What We’re Looking For

Join us as a Senior Environment Artist to set the scene for Kinstrife with authentic 13th century architecture and props. Together with the other artists on the team, you’ll be building the villages, castles, forests, and towns that players will experience, with a strong focus on modular systems, reusability, and smart pipeline solutions. This role is ideal for someone who loves solving technical challenges and creating flexible, efficient asset libraries that bring a historical setting to life.

What You’ll Do

  • Create high-quality, historically accurate environmental assets including architecture, props, and natural elements for our 13th century setting
  • Develop modular asset kits and systems that maximize reusability while maintaining visual quality and variety
  • Utilize and expand our workflows using Blender and Unity HDRP, leveraging tools like Geometry Nodes to accelerate processes
  • Optimize assets for real-time performance
  • Collaborate with other artists to maintain consistent style and quality across all environmental content
  • Mentor team members and provide feedback on environmental work
  • Coordinate with external freelancers on environment assets when additional capacity is needed

What’s Needed

  • 5-8+ years of professional experience in environment art for games
  • Shipped at least one title in a senior environment artist role
  • Expert proficiency with Blender, leveraging its full toolset for efficient workflows
  • Strong technical foundations in asset creation pipelines and workflow optimization
  • Solid understanding of PBR workflows and real-time rendering constraints
  • Extensive experience creating modular asset systems and kits
  • Portfolio demonstrating smart, systematic approaches to environment creation
  • Proficient in blender and Substance Painter
  • Strong understanding of PBR workflows and real-time rendering constraints
  • Strong grasp of architectural forms, natural environments, and prop design
  • Excellent communication skills and reliability in a remote work environment
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational skills

Bonus Points

  • Experience with Unity HDRP
  • Experience with photogrammetry workflows
  • Level design or level art skills, including in-engine scene composition and layout
  • Experience with procedural tools and systems for level generation
  • Portfolio featuring medieval/historical environments
  • Knowledge of medieval European architecture and material culture, particularly 13th century Germany
  • Experience researching historical architecture & props and translating reference into modular 3D systems
  • Strong material authoring and texturing skills demonstrated in portfolio
  • Previous experience coordinating or managing freelance environment artists
  • Examples of particularly clever solutions for modularity, pipeline efficiency, or tooling

What Should Be In Your Portfolio

  • Examples of modular environment work showing your systematic approach
  • Breakdowns demonstrating your pipeline, workflow, and technical decision-making
  • Medieval or historical environment work is a strong plus
  • Any examples of innovative solutions for asset reusability, pipeline optimization, or custom tools you’ve developed

Additional Thoughts

  • Though we strongly prefer experienced Blender users for this role: If you feel like you check everything else on this list to a T, this could still work
  • This crosses into tech art territory at times, you will have support for those aspects if necessary
