What We’re Looking For

Join us as a Senior Character Artist to bring our 13th century setting to life through authentic, detailed character work. Together with the other artists on the team, you’ll be creating the full spectrum of medieval society: from knights and clergy to merchants and peasants. You will also help us build and shape the art team as a key coordinator. In short: This role combines hands-on character creation and team coordination as we enter our production phase.

What You’ll Do

  • Create high-quality, historically accurate models & materials including clothing, armor, and character props
  • Take character models from concepts and references to a fully functional in-game asset, including setup for some of our custom tech
  • Develop and refine character art pipelines and workflows from blender into Unity HDRP
  • Coordinate with other artists to maintain visual consistency and style cohesion across all character assets
  • Review and provide constructive feedback on character work from internal team members and external contractors/freelancers
  • Maintain overview of character asset requirements and production schedules

What’s Needed

  • 5-8+ years of professional experience in character art for games
  • Shipped at least one title in a senior character artist role
  • Expert-level skills in character modeling, sculpting, texturing, and material creation
  • Proficient in blender and Substance Painter
  • Strong understanding of PBR workflows and real-time rendering constraints
  • Experience coordinating with other artists and maintaining style consistency across a project
  • Strong grasp of anatomy, form, and realistic clothing/drapery
  • Great communication & coordination skills, willingness to help more junior team members
  • Reliable and self-motivated

Bonus Points

  • Experience with cloth simulation tools like Marvelous Designer
  • Portfolio featuring medieval/historical character work
  • Knowledge of medieval European (particularly 13th century) clothing and material culture
  • Experience researching historical costumes and translating reference into 3D assets
  • Good sketching/concept skills for quick iterations and communication
  • Previous experience managing or coordinating freelance artists and outsource partners
  • Familiarity with Unity HDRP
  • Experience establishing art pipelines and workflows during production ramp-up

What Should Be In Your Portfolio

  • At least 3 realistic human characters
  • Breakdowns demonstrating e.g. topology, UV layouts, texturing process, and material setup
  • Medieval or historical work is a strong plus
  • Any examples of coordination work, style guides, or documentation you’ve created

Some additional Thoughts

  • We’re happy to consider candidates with excellent modeling skills in other DCCs, but Blender experience is strongly preferred
  • This is in equal parts a hands-on execution as well as a coordination role
