What We’re Looking For
Join us as a Senior Technical Animator to breathe life into Kinstrife’s physically simulated characters. Your role is to bridge the gap between hand-crafted and motion-captured animation and the runtime systems that drive our characters. You’ll help shape combat that feels weighty and responsive, smooth locomotion that handles complex terrain, world & prop interactions that ground characters into the space, and gestures that feel full of character. You’ll own the animation pipeline end-to-end, from planning and directing motion capture sessions to designing and coordinating in-engine animation systems. Working closely with programmers, you’ll connect animation data with procedural animation, and animation graphs to deliver believable and high-fidelity physics-based character control.
What You’ll Do
- Create, implement and iterate on in-game character and creature animation using DCC tools and Unity 6
- Plan, prepare and direct motion capture sessions, including hands-on prototyping with a full Rokoko setup
- Co-design and develop player and NPC animation systems, spanning combat, traversal, world & prop interactions, dialogue and facial animation
- Iterate and collaborate with gameplay programmers to deliver animation graphs, state machines, procedural animation, IK and physics-animation tooling for performant and high-fidelity animation
- Work and iterate within Unity engine to implement animations, playtesting results and ensuring compatibility with physics system
- Help shape animation tooling, pipelines, and workflows as the project evolves
- Work with character artists to ensure high-quality rigging
What’s Needed
- 7+ years in technical animation or gameplay animation, with a proven track record of shipping titles
- Experience working with Unity and animation systems (Playables, Animation Jobs or equivalent)
- Deep knowledge of technical animation and procedural animation techniques
- Strong experience with motion capture data and cleanup
- A solid understanding of animation principles and body mechanics
- Can work within technical constraints to create realistic yet performant animation solutions
- Fluent in English, with good communication and problem-solving skills
- Interest in medieval or historical settings or fighting styles
Bonus Points
- Knowledge and experience with medieval, historical fighting styles, martial arts or physical sports
- Basic coding knowledge and the ability to read or reason about C# scripts
- Comfortable switching between artistic creation and technical problem-solving
- Solid grasp of gameplay design and “game feel”
